son of sound aka henry maldonado has been producing influential house music dating back right back to 1991. he has released on strictly rhythm as house 2 house, maxi records as deja vu and maw records as rhythm section. son of sound has recently appeared on tirk and local talk before dropping the bomb that is jewel eye nights on jus ed s underground quality. he also has releases scheduled for later in the year on razor n tape and city fly. currently working on a collaboration ep with recloose for his own district 30 label. henry is also host of the highly regarded hit it and quit it radio show on the lot and east village radio with recloose and private panther.

andy hart returns after an almost two-year hiatus from the studio to release his first ep on the voyage imprint. following on from urulus greetings from namek, mistress in your mind is the sixth release and adds to a growing collection that already includes releases from harvey sutherland, m5k and ctepeo 57. mistress in your mind loosely stems from the intertwining influences of a love-induced delusion broken down over four tracks. hart draws sentiment from several aspects of his record collection, giving subtle nods to break beat, soul, acid and space-laden house.

according to white material pair galcher lustwerk and alvin aronson, their first collaborative album under the studio ost alias contains a mix of breezy electro, aquatic dub, high speed jit, and shimmering atmospherics. while clearly tongue-in-cheek, it s a fairly accurate description. certainly, there s a fluidity, moodiness and palpable sense of atmosphere at the heart of scenes, which casually drifts between hard-edged club workouts, hazy post-club fare and dreamy, horizontal experiments. it was apparently recorded over a three-year period, during jam sessions at various new york studios. its the spontaneous aspect of its creation that has the biggest effect, and makes the whole thing feel like fleeting snapshots of moments in time.

london modular alliance is the raw and unpredictable music project from the uk’s best known, dedicated modular synth shop london modular. its members simon lynch, phil ventre and gavin pykerman met through a shared passion in modular synthesisers. impromptu gatherings and jams soon turned into live performances at clubs, festivals and museums. from the hushed environs of the tate modern and v&a to vast sweatboxs such as fabric, bloc, freerotation, weather and berghain, london modular clearly have a flair for all things modular. this year sees a return to bloc weekender as well as new adventures at festivals such as dekmantel. they create an intense live show with a huge setup of self-assembled modular gear. every set starts with one small looping beginning – a patch – and is expanded into a deep sonic landscape. with the use of cables they build unexpected circuits and explore the power of pure electronic sounds without the use of a digital software infrastructure. no laptops, no button pushing, everything is created on the spot using modular synthesizers and is based on live improvisations. overall lma tries to keep its live sets in the dark: unrecorded, off the internet and only for those who are present in the moment. a clear break with the capture-all mentality of the internet age.

viva erotica has been a gabba-beat chamber orchestra, a facebook sculpture, a youporn recycling machine and is now becoming a piece of wax (a record). four tracks are furious comments on the downfall of club music - the bassdrum as a weapon against the bassdrum - the other four want to forgive and forget. 2015 was the year of about-face. each of the 330 records has a cutout from a coffee-table book plastered on the front.

after the release of their album -black ships- earlier this year tokyo black star cybersamurais alex and isao are returning to the mothership innervisions with their new 12 inch. -caballero- is tune from the album with a brand new mixdown by andreas schorpp and Âme plus a little edit-help from dixon. on the b-side radio slave delivers a fantastic remix of -caballero- which transfers the repetitive and hypnotic patterns he is known for with an exotic more cosmic sounding touch. all in all we think that this is definitely the best tokyo black star release we ever had in our hands.

crimes of the future rounds off the year in fine style with an absolutely essential ep from twins. 3 moody us house cuts straught out of atlanta and a sublime deep remix from label boss scott fraser. opening up with cause of dissociation, a slice of banging chicago house that would not have been out of place in the hands of mike dunn at the warehouse. rattling drums amd percussion a cut up vocal and a killer bassline make for dancefloor devastation. next up -you take too- takes things a little deeper, maintining the groove with chicago inspired percussion and filtered drums and stabbing synths grooving the track along. over on side b scott fraser takes -you take too- on to 5am on a dark smoke filled dancefloor, with a deep bassline and soaring strings. adding additional percussion, keys and swirling echoes... could be the sound of a lost nu groove classic. finally things close out with -a way from now- with more chicago inspired goodness with a funky bassline, pumping percussion and eerie ethereal keys rounding the ep off in fine style.

hans berg and johanna knutsson return to the ufo station with their fourth release, a powerful trippy trip, through warped time and space. and guess who was waiting for them at the station? well,none other than fellow space traveller dungeon acid, who delivers a remix that just might knock your space pants off. the title track alien power is obviously inspired by the quantum fusion core phase shift warp power engine that drives the ufo station, a steady beat to keep you on the right side of the force, whereas the dungeon acid remix is a musical interpretation of the great warp speed interdimensional flux mishap of the year 2216. the track dubby is so named because it inherently describes the core feeling of the track! alien choirs and synched synths meet long delay lines in this dreamy piece.

about a year ago nico stojan and acid pauli met at the studio to record some music. while doing so they discovered their common love for sample based production. so they were basically digging into old vinyls and eventually these three tracks came along. nothing more to say, but enjoy. call of the valley is the first release on the new label ouie: there has been a shift in this tiny piece of massive world and, like all other shifts, they are documented by those who were there. ouie is the label to do just that, created by the people who were there, making those shifts.

last year, edu imbernon & los suruba delivered cederron, an amazing original track with two awesome remixes from richy ahmed and lee van dowski. for this year, we have something even better. shadows of rigadon is a genuine proggy trip with a huge amount of musical layers, acid basslines and strong beats designed for special moments in your sets. for the remix we count on clarian and his delicate, deep and sophisticated way of understanding the electronic music. this release is a timeless work of art, trust us.

last year saw the mysterious garage shelter make their debut appearance on skylax, and little is still known about them! all we know is they are back with some freshness on the skylax classic sublabel. first up is bring back love, a track that will sink its claws in with that infectious vocal sample hook. sticking with the old school sample vibe is the lonely heart dub of attempt, it’s a bit more mellow but still has plenty of groove in it. friend of the garage shelter, dj la foudre, appears over on the b side with it’s alright (signal st mix). still on that catchy sample tip, it features one of the grooviest bassline and funky guitar pairings i’ve heard in a long time. next up, perception 66 is a smooth house affair from yet another friend, asa no hikari. rounding out the package is garage shelter’s own you (still), a dreamy pad-driven track that may indeed be the pick of the release. while we don’t know much about garage shelter, we can’t help but look forward to what they come out with next!

paris-based beat x changers brings up to you a new record with a collaborative project in the shape of classic cuts.our new release introduces two new french artists brought together on a split ep: tell from paris and name from the sunny avignon city, both of them backed- up by exclusive remixes from three of our historical beat x producers: neue grafik and pulkone (aka x_1 & monomite). on the a-side, discover tell - a 20-year old jazz drummer - who releases two soulful and melodic tracks. you’ll recognize the heat of the mpc grain, obsessing samples and uplifting breaks. on the b-side, southern producer name offers a disco-like and funky house music via two dancing tracks with a clear reference to the clubbing universe of new york and chicago. this activist dj and experimented producer – he is an ableton teacher on the side – gained recognition in the south of france music scene in the last decade and reached the ears of producer kink.grand Écart (i.e. wide gap or split) recalls the time it took to release this ep. it’s also a geographical gap, a gap between the ideas of the five artists brought together on this release, a gap between our expectations and the reality of some passed – or cancelled – venues in paris. we have always believed in this project and in our flexibility!

lakker were commissioned by the re:vive initiative to create a new conceptual work solely sampling field recording, tv and radio broadcasts from the dutch national av archive, the netherlands institute for sound and vision. the curated material provided all related to and was representative of the theme the “dutch and water”.
the resulting 8 track release “struggle and emerge” is a tense soundtrack to the machine driven mid-20th century that captures the complex relationship between the dutch and the water that surrounds them- unyielding, colossal, industrial.

on his first release for berceuse heroique, rotterdam’s finest dj overdose meets one of the strongest producers of detroit, mr. ob ignitt. overdose creates the best soundtrack for a “march of the robots” scene with dead city. the mighty bounce of early dr. dre productions meets some nasty electro carnage. on sorry to disappoint you can hear the classic west coast electro sound of some of his older releases mixed with some funky sci-fi synth lines. then, ob ignitt takes this monster of a tune and creates one of the gnarliest house tunes of this year with a proper g funk bassline that will properly test your sound system on a good night.

ext returns with his follow up to the third installment of house shoes reputable “the gift” series with “arts & craft”. ext cleared off his desktop about a year ago and sent me everything he had been working on. all of the tracks were in various stages of development. some loops, some fully fleshed out, some sounded like sketches. it drew my attention because of the resounding innocence of the collection, an innocence that is more or less gone from the industry in 2015. listen and learn what it sounds like to just have the intention to create, not muddled with the star aspirations or big money dreams. just to create.
